EDIT: Sorry for the resubmit, but I wasn't at all at peace with the third portait quality and with the its composition. Here's a link to the old one if you wish to see what I changed: [link]
This is actually pretty randomly inspired by a song that kept puzzling me for ages - Suite Madam Blue, by Styx (if you wanna hear it - [link] and if you just want the lyrics: [link] )
For the longest time, I kept wondering what the song was ACTUALLY about. I am pretty sure that my interpretation of it has nothing to do with whatever the writer originally wanted... but when I hear it, I imagine 3 disjointed parts of this woman's life...
first... a time when she was young, when she had managed to get under the skin of influential people, and thus indirectly impact important decisions... (Once long ago, a word from your lips and the world turned around) second... a time when she essentially turns her back on the world, on everything she once knew, on her identity really... I think it's to this representation of her that the song is actually sung to... and third, being a sort of a what she could be if she ever found the determination to start again... ("the future is all but past, So lift up your heart, make a new start, And lead us away from here")
And yeah, I'm sure the song is actually more related to something about American culture (thus the big chorus going all "America" and "red white and blue!" LOL), but I can't figure out what exactly it could be Youtube suggests it's about the statue of liberty, but I don't see that myself Probably cause I'm too absorbed in my own interpretation
In any case, I hope you enjoy this... and if you do listen to the song... what do YOU think it's about? o.O
thanks btw, I just submitted a new version, cause the composition and 3rd portrait were killing me do you think there's an improvement? (link to past version in the artist description)
I'm really pleased with the new third portrait as I think it does more justice to the overall piece. And I completely understand you about the "must draw moments." What's really nice about your Suite Madame Blue is that you executed it well and with so much thought given how initially impulsive it was. I mean, the progression of the character is really clear, especially when you go from her very whimsical, light expression in the first portrait, to the older-wiser-contempletive one in the mirror. And I LOVE that it's a mirror shot btw. I feel like it adds so much to the piece that she's supposed to be looking back at herself, but is looking back at us. Like I said just above, this picture's very thoughtful, and I think you pulled it off well.
thank you so much for the comment I am glad that you like the age and attitude progression, and it's awesome that it feels like she's looking in a mirror. I wanted that, but I didn't wanna spell it out with an actual mirror frame, it messed with the composition so badly...
and oh, I always thought stuff gets updated when I change the version I never knew it didn't haha
You're so welcome. And I did a double take when I read this from you, because you'd executed it so well that I didn't even notice it WASN'T a mirror. I went back and looked, and sure enough, quite clearly, it just seems like a tapestry, and not at all a mirror, but it translated SO well. Extra kudos! woohoo!
And to my knowledge, things don't get updated that way. At least I've never noticed... maybe it does, but I just save so much art in my inbox that it never registered as an update. I have several things of yours that I just keep in there, and it was one of them for awhile, so maybe I just thought it was the original the whole time. lol.
