Altea is :iconrose-left-home:'s character in our DnD group. She's an extremely skilled archer, born in a noble family, who ran away to seek adventure, and is currently risking her life to return to a man she's loved years ago ^^ I'll ask Teo to write a little more about her sometime :)

I still don't have a working tablet... which is why I was really nervous about working on this... I mean... realism with a mouse? who's ever heard of that :P But I decided that if `Katmomma can pull off amazing colorings by mouse, with so much depth of perception, that I might as well try too ^^ I'm glad I did, I'm kinda shocked at the possibilities lol :P

In any case, I highly recommend full-viewing on this one, the thumbnail looks a little meh :)

CREDITS: some refs from photos of teo that she provided, and some random stock of little skin imperfections inserted into the skin :)

wow! this looks great! especially for a mouse! The face is stunning, the imperfections really add character to it. Love her eyes and lips- oh, and the lighting is really well done

thank you so much. I was very surprised myself :) I really focused on getting a nice skintone and lighting, so thank you so much for that comment ^^ and I COMPLETELY agree, imperfections just make a character feel so much more real ^^

:iconomfgplz: You did this with a mouse?!!!!! :faint: WOOOOOOW!

You handled the textures so nicely! It's great that you were able to incorporate some stock into it too- I often have to do that with pieces that involve texture detail that I can't quite get with a mouse :D Fantastic work on those hair highlights! wow! For the me, the mouse is like a digital pastel- and sometimes (like ink and watercolor) you can use imperfections to your advantage! :D

This looks like you may have zoomed in and took to this with a fine pick and comb-- focusing on every little detail-- even the wiry quality of the eyebrows! This is a magnificent piece that you should be most proud of! Soak in what you have learned and take from it!

btw....How long did it take you to do those eye lashes?

I know, I can't believe it's mouse either :P I used to have a lot of dexterity with it, but I got so used to the tablet the 3 something years I had it that I never thought I could go back to a mouse :P you're right about it being like pastel, it's harder to manage, less permissive, and much sharper. you sorta need to know exactly what color you're placing where, cause it's harder to work with low opacity... but it's totally doable, and I'm so glad about that, because it'll be a few months before I can get a new tablet, and it's nice to know I don't need to lay off art that challenges me :P

In terms of small details, it's mostly just the eyebrows and eyes I zoomed in for... they were really important for the character too, she has very keen eyesight, and I wanted the eyes to be a focus in this picture :) the hair, the skin, all that, it was mostly just broad strokes. helps to put a brush on "fade" I noticed ^^

the eyelashes didn't take long, there's a blurry brown layer underneath, and sharp short eyelashes above it in black... it's not too time consuming :) actually the whole piece today took about 6 hours to color... I did a sketch for it the other day :)

awesome! See mice can be fun! I still love traditional though-- because there is no "undo" button

Love what you've done with the skin. You don't notice it that well before full-viewing, but it really is different when you view it up close.
She reminds me of the photo of the authoress that was on her dA-page. But given it's her character I see no trouble in that (playing DnD with characters based on yourself would be interesting to try sometime).
Her eyes are really captivating.

It's her first character too. :) She initially said Altea looks a lot like her, so I tried to make her resemble her without being a carbon copy mary sue :P

I'm glad you like the eyes, they were my focal point for the image ^^
:iconmadam-marla:
thank you so much :) they were really my focal point for the image :)
